Leaks in a sink can be, basically and commonly, due to two causes. The first is that faucet or drain parts have loosened or deteriorated, and second, is that the water that falls on the counter will seep through the joints of the sink. The good thing though is that it’s easier than garbage disposal installation and repair.
In the first case, the main solution is to change the worn part or, perhaps, to pass simply by tightening a thread or loose part. Before these tasks will be necessary to find out where the leak is. For them we will dry all the pieces well dried and we will reopen the tap according to which is the zone of escape, being this one that first gets wet. Once found we will have to disassemble the system and reassemble it and replace the worn parts.
A drain is composed basically of a valve, an extension, the arm, connection, the siphon and the drain. All parts are joined with threads and rubber washers, so the assembly and disassembly is very simple, you just have to unscrew the threads and carefully extract each part being careful not to lose any.
Do not forget to turn off the water while working to make it more comfortable and without surprises that hinder the work.
Once all the pieces are separated, evaluate them and identify the ones that are deteriorated, approach to a store or hardware store with the piece and get an equal or the complete set. Reassemble, tightening the bolts and nuts that connect the valve to the faucet and check that the leak has disappeared. Be careful not to over tighten or the faucet body may break.
How to cover silicone joints
To check if the leak is due to the joints on the hob, pour water into the sink and see if there is any leakage at the bottom of the sink.
If such a leak exists, use a knife or cutter to remove the putty or silicone from the attachment points between the sink and the hob. Wipe the entire area with a cloth dampened with alcohol to remove any residual silicone.
Once dry, apply the new silicone around the sink. You see pushing the silicone with the finger to create a uniform cord in the line of union and makes that the substance that uses penetrate well in the slot without leaving no gap.
Clean the remains of putty with a cloth soaked with alcohol again and let everything dry completely before it gets wet again.
In a few simple steps you have solved the problem without spending a dime.
